GRIEF
by Jane Murphy
Came two armies resolute and bold To the fateful crossroad where Some would live and some would die. Die they did. Now so will I, With the hope that vanished there. No, ah no, no. Victory wasn't to be won. Let it go. Let it go. Conflict unresolved has met its fate. War is such a horror to behold! Crimson blood is everywhere, Even in the western sky. Corpses all around me lie, Though I am no longer there. No, ah no, no. There is nothing to be done. Let it go. Let it go. Suffer not in vain, for it’s too late. The warriors fell. The bridge was burned. Remember well The lesson learned. Someone who was here is passed away, Gone into the dark of night, Never to return again. Now alone, I think of when Joy and youthful dreams were bright. No, ah no, no. Love endures, but dreams do not. Let it go. Let it go. Never cling to what can never be. With devotion love would not betray, I stood by him in his fight, Shared his fear and stinging blows, Even to his final throes. How could his defeat be right? No, ah no, no. Truth and Fate cannot be bought. Let him go. Let him go. He was taken by divine decree. At peace, he lies In evening’s tomb. He’ll heal and rise From morning’s womb. So leave the silent dreamer to his sleep. Know the price of love is pain. Poignant sorrow piercing deep, Take the time you need to weep. Yield and feel the pouring rain. Let it go. Let it go Flowing down the river to the sea.
