Trends in the Transits

In an astrological forecast, the “parts” are the various aspects formed between planets and perfecting at different moments as they transit through the Zodiac. Known meanings of the major aspects operating this month are listed below.
The “whole” is the “big picture” of all the planets influencing the quality of a particular time, as seen in a chart cast for that time. Above are charts for the current month. The chart on the left shows the major planetary influences operating as the month begins; the one on the right shows the same on the date of the last aspect listed below. As these charts are intended to apply to everyone everywhere, the planets are mapped in the natural wheel (zero degrees of Aries rising, equal houses, no reference to any location).
The difference between the known meaning of an individual aspect and its influence in the context of a chart is something like the difference between local news with a photo and international news with a map of the world. With a shift of focus from one perspective to the other, we see the parts in the context of the whole. In this way our intuition can “connect the dots”, helping us to understand better what it all means.

Enthusiasm and Obstacles
The month begins with several planets still in an ultra-harmonious Grand Trine in Water. We’re generally better balanced emotionally than we were earlier in the year, and life is flowing somewhat more comfortably. Jupiter will stay in trine with Saturn and Neptune all month, continuing to give comfort, encouragement, and moral support to those who need it most.
But this month, other planets will break out of their trines and leave Watery Scorpio. When they square Saturn/Neptune in Pisces from Fiery Sagittarius, the feeling tone will change. From this highly optimistic, happy-go-lucky sign they (and we) tend to be enthusiastic and confident about forging ahead with positive plans. Why not? Hasn’t there been enough suffering? We’ve got information and theories galore. Don’t we understand enough by now to move on?
Well, yes, there certainly has been, but no, we really don’t. At present, there are still some formidable obstacles and some secrets that have to stay hidden for good reason. So while general optimism is probably justified, we should not expect this month to bring all of the resolutions we’d like to see.

With encouragement and reassurance from benevolent Jupiter, it seems easier now to carry out duties we don’t necessarily want to do. We’re simply reinforced and empowered by our belief that they’re the right thing to do. We know where to draw the line between frivolous frills and real necessity, to which we limit our efforts, although we may well improve or expand on our ways of addressing them.
This is a protective aspect that gives the stamina and humor to deal well with whatever challenges we may be confronting, helping us to “make lemons into lemonade”. We can use it to make solid progress in the material world.

This can be a frustrating, irritating time, as efforts at self-assertion are blocked or delayed in some way. Typical causes include things like a literal physical barrier, a lack of something needed, conflict with some slow process for which we must wait, judgments by some authority figure, or simply fear. An image of a speeding motorist being stopped by the police comes to mind. We’re in a rush to do something we want to do, but for whatever reason we can’t do it — at least not now. Somehow there’s a duty to stop or slow things down. Maybe there is a priority that we should be attending to first, or maybe we just need to be patient and wait for the right time.

This square doesn’t necessarily slow down our speed, but it tends to disorient us as to direction, so that we aren’t clear about what we’re doing. There’s some sort of conflict in our path, but somehow we tend to either not see it or not recognize it for what it is. This can lead to disappointments, and sometimes to inadvertent blunders that cause pain and embarrassment. Or we might simply waste time and energy ‘running in circles and getting nowhere’.

Uh-oh. Here we may run into obstacles and delays, easily exacerbated by fears. Difficult judgments and decisions may be necessary now. Though we need to be realistic, we do well to replace fear with wisdom and compassion. A barrier we face now is not the dead end it may appear to be; it’s a serious but manageable challenge that can stimulate our noble ambitions.

This square seems to divert energy normally expended physically into the imagination, so that we feel less energetic than usual. Perception tends to be relatively unfocused, and action on the sloppy side. Normally it’s a good time to take a break from life’s practical pressures, if we can, and relax with a movie, a good book, or an artistic activity, preferably with a strongly positive focus.
